WARWICK, R.I.—Count 97-year-old Mary Poncin of Warwick among the long-term unemployed who have finally found work.

Poncin has been hired as an official greeter at Kent Hospital in Warwick after nearly 17 months of being unemployed. She was laid off in January 2010 from a position in retail sales.

Poncin's first job was as a waitress at a Rhode Island diner in the 1930s. She earned $1 a day.

Poncin will greet patients and visitors at the main entrance of the state's second-largest hospital and provide directions and other information.

Its sad, they wont see that she is 97 and still has to work!! SS isnt enough for most people and they still have to supplement their income. Its not like they are getting enough to live on. Evil or Very Mad

The lack of respect for the elderly is disgusting!! They are part of our history.

Is that what this country has come to? A 97 year old needs a job to survive in America?
