Ohio is about to forgo about $176 million in federal aid for the unemployed.
To get the money, Ohio with an unemployment rate of 8.6 percent must expand jobless benefits, such as covering part-time workers who lose their jobs.
State lawmakers have until Aug. 22 to meet the requirements or lose the money.
Today, Democratic lawmakers and organized labor called on Republican leaders in the House and Senate to approve the necessary measures.
